One of Mexico’s largest islands, Cozumel, is located 20 km (12 miles) from the mainland, and 60 km (36 mi) south of Cancun. It is a flat, limestone island in the shape of a handgun, and pierced by dozens of cenotes (water-filled holes), many with their own marine life, which are an extra attraction for tourists and snorkellers who come to experience the island’s fantastic offshore reefs.

Jacques Cousteau first promoted Cozumel in 1960, when he fingered Palancar at the island’s southern tip as one of the world’s best diving sites. He triggered a growth in tourist development, only reined in with the establishment of the National Marine Park in 1996: but the reefs were badly damaged by the deepwater piers built for cruise ships to bring new clientele.

Attitudes changed quickly. Cozumel’s new islanders (the 40,000 Maya who welcomed Herman (’Stout’) Cortes in 1519 were reduced to 30 by 1510, and Cozumel became uninhabited) realised the value, not just of their spectacular marine wealth, but also of the island’s undeveloped centre.

You’ll never get a better chance to appreciate Mayan culture so close to good beaches. The biggest Mayan site, San Gervasio (named much later), was for centuries sacred to lx Chel, the goddess of fertility, and one of the Yucatan’s most important sanctuaries. There are several others, recovered from jungle and swampy mangrove lagoons now teeming with cormorants, pelicans, primary-coloured tree frogs, iguanas and crocodiles.

These days, the duty of collective care is replacing the insensitive mistakes of the 1970s. You can see 250 species in its clear waters, including the bright blue-and-yellow queen angelfish, the toad fish (unique to Cozumel), and enormous sponges like the barrel and elephant ear, which grows to 3.6 m (12 ft) across. Cozumel is fabulously pretty and exotic, and you should go there with someone you love and watch the sunsets.

The art of speaking also known as rhetorik is not always an easy task to master. One man had to learn this the hard way. A former works council in a german company was requested to hold a speech at a festivity and messed up terribly. His speech was so worse that lots of people left the room, others looked ashamed away and some of them hissed him. He then left the room and was deeply in shame. After that day he promised himself never to be in a situation like that again. And he was determined to learn all about rhetoric he could. He visited every rhetorik seminar he could and spent thousands of euros finding the best techniques. He learned under nearly every teacher there is and found that lots of the teachings were contrary.

Eventually the student asked a lot of questions and finally he developed his own style of rhetoric and his own rhetoric tutorials (rhetorik uebungen). He took every method and tried and tested it so he could develop a feeling for it and its effeciency. So this person came up with a modern set of rules for rhetoric and a unique style of presenting. Which the most important milestone is without a doubt the abandonment of powerpoint. His teachings and trainings are most remarkably and now this man is well-known in europe for his unique approach. Buying emeralds can be difficult for the first time buyer because there is such a huge price difference between low quality and high quality emeralds. The country of origin has a big effect on emerald prices as well. Generally speaking Colombian emeralds will cost more than Brazilian emeralds with Zambian emeralds being the cheapest. Emeralds are mined in many localities but these three countries are the top producers and will likely be what most people see for sale. Price differences between countries of origin is because each one has a distinct type of emerald color. Colombia produces some of the best pure green hues with just a slight amount of blue. Brazilian emeralds tend to have a slight brown or gray secondary color while Zambian emeralds tend to have too much of a blue component to their color.

Low quality emeralds that either have poor quality transparency or color can be purchased for a few dollars per carat. Light does not pass through these emeralds because they are opaque. They may also have such pale green color that many gem labs would not call them emerald but green beryl instead.

High quality Colombian emerald prices start around $1000 to $3000 per carat so you should expect to pay about $4000 for a high quality 2 carat emerald. This should buy you an emerald with very good color, moderate to low levels of treatment, and good clarity. Almost all emeralds in this price range will be treated with oil, resin, or polymer. This treatment is accepted worldwide and has been done for centuries. Above $3000 per carat you start to see emeralds for sale that have little or no treatment and larger sizes.

For any home to run smoothly, efficiently and well-organized, there are a few tools you need to make it happen!

Home Organizational Tool # 1:  A day planner.  I would be lost without mine!  Everything in my day begins and ends with the day planner.  Use whatever type of calendar works for you-a calendar with squares, a white board, an electronic system.  The point is to have one place where you can jot down all of your activities and even little reminders like phone calls to make or errands to run.  Get in the habit of checking it every night to review and prepare for the next day’s activities.

Home Organizational Tool # 2:  A mail center.  It is crucial to have one place for all the current, incoming papers that come your way.  Every day we have so much paper coming into our homes-from work, the mail, bills, the kid’s school.  Purchase a step sorter and file folders to separate papers until you have time to deal with them.  Be sure to clearly label your folders.  Some examples of the folder names may be:  Bills to Pay, Papers to Read, Things to Do.  Think about what you are dealing with regularly and give it a home with a name.

Home Organizational Tool # 3:  A label machine.  No matter how nice your writing is, nothing can top the clear, clean look of a label from a label machine.  You don’t have to spend very much money at all to get a handy little machine.  I have two, one  expensive and one inexpensive and I like them both.  Using labels on folders, files and storage bins makes it very clear to everyone in the home where to get something and exactly where to put it back.  It makes it much more likely that belongings will be found easily.
