Declutter Your Home, Declutter Your Mind

When an area of your home is cluttered, cramped and disorganized, it causes stress and a definite feeling of being overwhelmed.  It’s hard to know where to start to tackle this build-up of stuff!  It makes you wonder, “How did it get this bad anyway!”

Clutter affects us in many ways.  There are the actual physical difficulties of tripping over stuff or having to move things out of the way to find what you need. How many times has this happened to you?

But then there is the stress of cluttering of the mind.  When you are surrounded by “stuff” it makes it hard to think.  It can paralyze you from moving forward on a project or activity.  It can be depressing to live in an environment that causes you stress and makes you feel stuck.
So take the time to organize your home by decluttering and making space.  Follow the order of these steps to regain control.

1)     Sit down and make a goal for how you want to use the space.

2)    Decide how long you feel you can work during each session.

3)    Go through your belongings and decide what you are ready to part with.  Keep a garbage can and a donation bag handy to get it out the door.

4)    Store items that you are keeping together and place a label on the outside of the bin or basket.

Organize your home when you declutter and enjoy the benefits of a relaxed home as well as a relaxed mind!

Our Dog Park Adventure

There is a neighborhood near my house where just about every household has at least one dog. Many households even have two and three dogs. As a result, not only is the neighborhood very noisy, but it is also very dog friendly.

Most of my neighbors are getting on in age. The only dogs that ever seem to come into and out of the houses around here are lap dogs and dogs that are just barely old enough to jump up and down the front steps. My dog, I can tell, is rather lonely.

Awhile ago, as I was walking my dog through the next neighborhood, I started thinking, “wouldn’t it be nice if I could introduce my dog to some of these dogs?” Then, just as I turned the corner, I was pleasantly surprised to find a brand new, roped off dog park.

On the inside of the fence surrounding this dog park, there were about a dozen dogs running free from their dog leashes with one another. The dogs were jumping and playing and having a good old time.

I took my dog to the gate and he just couldn’t contain his excitement. As soon as I let him run free inside the gate, he ran straight for the center of attention. I huddled around the fence with the other doggy parents as we watched our pups play with their dog toys.

After about a week of going to the dog park, I began to make friends with the other dog owners who took their dogs there regularly. Friendships were struck, and we started planning “people activities”, like coffee and shopping, where we could include our dog pals..

Now our activities regularly include gathering at the dog park and then walking to the local coffee shops. We take our dogs walking along the river, hiking in the hills, and on other fun outings. Dog walking has turned out to be a great way for me to find new friends and develop several long term friendships.

My dog now always looks for and expects his new people friends to join us when we’re walking alone. Whenever I take him off the leash he always runs as quick as he can to the doggy park! We feel so lucky to be in such a dog-friendly neighborhood where there are so many like-minded families.

The wrong autoresponder email marketing can collapse your business

The wrong autoresponder email marketing can collapse your business, not build it.

A lot has been said about email marketing as an excellent tool for web marketing but few have been said about its pitfalls. If you plan to use auto responders as a booster for your online sales effort, you should pay particular attention to how your information is delivered to the readers. Basically, you should be concerned about the format in which the information is carried over.

In this article, we try to look at some of the much overlooked points that are a recipe for an email marketing campaign disaster.

Text format

When it comes to text on the internet, there are principally two main types that you can use in your email auto responders as part of your email marketing plain text like the one we see in notepad and html, the commonly used format on the web. Plain text normally contains no formatting but html text has formatting, variable background and can contain graphics.

Now let’s look at the reasons behind your choosing one or the other.

If you are reaching a simple readership without the need for extensive formatting and illustrations in your materials, then the best way to go is plain text for your email marketing. This style of text is easy to read ( as it has a white background) and loads easily because there are no graphics.

However, if you need to put links in your email marketing auto responders that readers will click on, then a problem emerges. People usually associate long links with affiliates. Even if you own the product being offered for sale, many people will shrug at the idea of clicking on a link because they know you are trying to hide behind an ezine or article to sell them a product.

Manila Profile

Manila, capital of the Philippines, represents a challenge, both blessed and cursed, slums stand alongside beautiful churches and many universities contrast with the many nightclubs and exciting, 24 hour street life.

Manila is the political and economic focal point of the Philippines, and it serves as a honey-pot for people from all over the country. For most visitors from North America or Europe, this metropolis does not seem to merit more than a few days’ visit, after which the serenity of the provinces may seem all that much more attractive. Although a trip to Manila is taxing, it nevertheless gives the tourist important insights into the culture, history and current state of this island republic, insights that stem from its very wealth of contradictions.

In the sights of foreign conquerors

Natives who settled at the mouth of the Pasig River in Manila have seen a great many rulers come and leave. The first to come were the Malaysians, who arrived in the Philippines during the pre-Christian era. Hindu and Buddhist leaders from Indonesia followed. Islam got to Manila at the end of the fifteenth century. The Muslim sultanate established in the mid-sixteenth century had been in existence for barely a decade when Spanish Catholic sailors appeared on the horizon.

Colonial Manila

Miguel de Legaspi conquered Manila in 1571, declaring it to be the capital of the Spanish colony of the Philippines. Despite the ravages of World War Two, when Manila was heavily bombed, traces of the city’s colonial past are still in evidence, particularly in the Intramuros district. Intramuros, literally “within the walls”, meaning within the wall enclosure of the city/fortress. The city centre, with its partially restored wall , is the site of a number of sixteenth-century buildings including Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral and the church of San Augustin, the oldest in the city.

At the centre of power

The heart of Manila is now elsewhere, in Makati, the modern commercial and banking quarter. Elegant high rises, gorgeous residential estates, super-modern shopping centres and numerous 5 star hotels can be seen. The modern development of this quarter began in the mid-twentieth century. Like much of the growth in Manila, Makati is closely connected to the politically powerful Zobel de Ayala family. The family name is found throughout the city, on streets, buildings and public monuments.

They come here not only to pray

Pasay City is located in the south-west of Manila across the superhighway from high-class Makati. On Wednesdays, Pasay is overrun with people. In Baclaran, the faithful crowd into Redemption Church, where weekly services are held in honour of the Virgin Mary. But one suspects that even more Manilans make their way to Pasay in order to patronize the neighbourhood’s famous lech6n stands, known to be the best source of that quintessential Philippine specialty, roast suckling pig.

A bit of folk culture

Throughout Manila, a light rail station is never far away. If your stomach is complaining after a feast of suckling pig, a gentle ride on this elevated railway is highly recommended. The trip back to town can also be made by Jeepney, of course, though it will be slower and more crowded.

Jeepneys were originally former United States Army jeeps that had been converted into passenger vehicles with as many as fourteen canopied seats. These days, however, most Jeepneys come new from the production line. Beautiful painting and decoration are a must have for genuine Jeepney status. Most have religious icons as their central theme, but they may include funny comic strip images.

Many Jeepneys are so thoroughly covered in advertising that they resemble moving billboards, while others looks like temples on wheels. What’s important for visitors to remember, however, is that Jeepneys follow specific routes, just like buses. It is always best to inquire about the route before getting on board.

Appear Amazing in Plus Size Sleepwear

I am a plump girl. I am also a good looking girl. I am self-assured. But it is very hard to express myself through garments, especially in sleepwear, since nothing hardly fits me.

Womens plus size sleepwear can be very hard to find and sometimes I have to have them made to order. It is quite a bother for plus size women like me because mostly, stores a only carry sizes 0 to 8.

Partiality is obvious in today’s frivolous world, where refinement is noticed as stick-thin, while compared to big is beautiful. The outrageous outbreak of skeletal models in glossy and billboards do not intimidate me. In fact, I pity them. Sure, they have tiny waists and lanky legs but what else do they have aside from their looks? We will all grow old ultimately and looks will eventually wear out. What’s important is feeling good about one’s self.

Sleepwear, despite its name, is not just for sleeping. Sleepwear is also for lounging around the apartment and just relaxing. In my endless quest of classy plus size sleepwear, I want to find something that’s beautiful as it is pleasant. I am dismayed at how unattractive and unappealing they are. It would seem that sleepwear designers distinguish plus size women as fat and ungraceful and not voluptuous and curvy.

Thankfully, though I have come across different websites that offer gorgeous nightgowns for big women. These nightgowns not only fit me but they flatter as well. The various of sleepwears come in different colors and layouts that are not only comfortable, but flirty and fun as well.

Being plus size shouldn’t stop you from feeling provocative especially when the occasion calls for it. Huge intimate companies have now jumped the bandwagon in producing rich yet affordable sleepwear for large women. A plus size woman can now look as stunning as she feels in plus size sleepwear.

A Complete Education in Balloons

Introduction

When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what thoughts appear in your mind? Is it simple balloons you blow up for children’s parties, or balloons that fly off on their own, or the special balloons for key events like the ones produced for the wedding of Charles and Diana? There are now so many different types of balloons on the market that you can get almost anything for everything any event you like.

So what exactly is a balloon? One definition defines a balloon as a flexible bag which you fill with air or some other type of gas, such as helium or hydrogen. The early balloons would have been made with non flexible material but modern balloons are made with latex so they have great elasticity and can be pumped up to much larger sizes.

History of Balloons

The earliest known balloons were made in Central and Southern America by the Aztec Indians. They were made out of the bowels of cats which were carefully cleaned then turned inside out. They were sewn with special vegetable thread that had the property of sticking to itself when dried in the sun and creating an almost airtight seal. The balloons were then made into air filled model animals and burned at the top of the Aztec pyramid as an offering to the sun god. (The first example of balloon modelling). A Portuguese priest, Bartolomeu de Gusmao, held the first public exhibition of a balloon in the Portuguese Court in Lisbon in 1709 which was probably made from an animal bladder that stretched when filled with air. The rubber balloon was invented in 1824 by a Michael Faraday and was filled with hydrogen to be used in his experiments with hydrogen. But the familiar latex balloon did not appear until 1847.

The early rubber balloons were sold in America in Parks and Circuses for a penny each. Although the latex balloon was manufactured in London in the mid 1800’s the mass production of them did not occur until much later in 1931.

As technology has become more advanced so has the world of balloons. Now balloons can be made from rubber, latex, polychloroprene or nylon. They can be filled with air, helium, hydrogen or water. Filling the balloon with air can be done with the mouth, a manual pump(such as a hand pump), or electric inflator or with compressed gas. The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to suit the event.

Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specific purposes because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.

Types of Balloons

Party Balloons

The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. These are usually bought in small packets and blown up with a pump to create a festive scene for children’s parties and other kinds of celebratory events balloons really do make all the difference.

These days I often see a cluster of balloons at the entrance to a house or hall to indicate where the party is being held. The balloons come in many different sizes and colours and can have printing on the face which expands as the balloon is inflated. Party Balloons are mostly made of natural latex tapped from rubber trees. The rubber’s elasticity makes the volume variable. Balloons filled with air usually hold their size and shape much longer.

Helium Balloons

Balloons which float upwards are filled with the gas helium which is lighter than air. So for an event where balloons are let off into the atmosphere, they will need to be helium balloons. Helium filled rubber balloons typically only retain their buoyancy for a few days. The enclosed helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex through which they escape. To increase the float time of a helium balloon for a week or more, the inside of the balloons can be coated with a special polymer solution to reduce the leakage of the helium.

Water Balloons

The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. They are filled with water and are intended for children to throw at each other as a game or practical joke with the aim of getting each other wet. They may also be used in competitions or games.

Foil Balloons

In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. They are much more expensive and made an appearance at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana causing quite a stir. These balloons have attractive shiny reflective surfaces and can be printed with color pictures, logos and patterns to customize them. The most important attribute of metalized nylon for balloons is its ability to keep the helium gas from escaping for several weeks because it is less permeable. Foil balloons then have the advantage of being light weight, longer-lasting, with increased buoyancy. They are perfect for parties, in-store decorations, special celebrations and for gifts.

Animal-Shaped Balloons

Metalized nylon balloons can be cut into the three dimensional shapes of animals and then printed to represent the chosen animal. Once inflated the balloons make very bright, decorative items for gifts or may be used as a theme for a special event. Screen printing is used to create the designs for these spectacular pieces.

Balloon Modelling and Balloons in Art

Balloon modelling is a popular entertainment for children and adults alike. A Balloon artist twists and ties inflated tubular balloons into shapes resembling animals or even people. Sometimes they are called balloon sculptures, not to be confused with those cited below. When I have watched these artists at work I have often wondered why the balloons don’t burst when they are working.

Obviously the type of Latex used for balloon sculptures is different and much stronger than ordinary balloons, so the sculptor can twist and tie the shapes without them bursting. These Latex balloons which are tubular, are hard to get going, so often a pump is used to get them started.

Balloon Sculptures

Professional party decorators may use hundreds of helium balloons to create balloon sculptures. These sculptures are often restricted because of the round shape of the balloons to simple arches or walls but on occasion more ambitious “sculptures” have been attempted. Sometimes balloons are used as table decorations for special events which will have 3 or 5 balloons to each bouquet. The decoration will usually include curled ribbon with an added weight to stop the balloons from floating away.

Professional balloon party decorators use electronic equipment to enable the exact amount of helium to fill the balloon. For non-floating balloons air inflators are used. Professional quality balloons differ from most retail packet balloons as they are bigger in size and made from 100% biodegradable latex.

Balloon Drops

I am sure you will have been to a party or dance where at the end of the evening hundreds of balloons fall from the ceiling to mingle amongst the participants. This is known as a balloon drop and is often performed at New Year’s Eve celebrations or at political rallies and conventions. It is a relatively low cost way of creating a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.

If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height. This is then filled with air-inflated balloons so that they will fall onto the target area below when the balloons are released. You will also need to devise a mechanism for releasing the balloons. Balloon drops may also be performed at many celebrations, including graduations and weddings.

Balloon Rockets

As a child I am sure you played the game of blowing up a balloon then letting it go while watching it speed around the room making a rude noise with everyone falling about laughing. These are called balloon rockets and I remember being enthralled and wondering how they worked. When the mouth of the balloon is released, the greater pressure of air inside forces its way out and the elasticity of the balloon contracts causing the balloon to be propelled forward. This is fundamentally how a rocket works. The balloon can also be filled with gases other than air, with similar results. Besides being simple toys, balloon rockets are a widely used teaching device to demonstrate physical principles and the functioning of a rocket. The balloon rocket is frequently used to demonstrate Newton’s third law in physics.

Balloon Publicity

Balloons races or releases using balloon gas to lift the balloons are often major publicity events where the company logo or message is printed onto the balloons. Helium is the gas used to make balloons float upwards for fund raising or raising awareness.

Balloon Releases

In Australia they had a fund raising event on 18th April for Make-A-Wish Day. The 5,000 released balloons make a stunning sight as they rise across the bay marking the number of wishes granted since 1985.

If you are planning a balloon release or race of more than 5,000 balloons, it is a requirement that you apply in writing for permission to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at least 28 days in advance. The CAA also like to be informed of balloon releases up to 5,000. A form can be obtained by calling either the NABAS office on 01989 762 204 or the Airspace Utilisation Section of the CAA on 020 7453 6599

Because of concerns about the effect on the environment of large numbers of balloons being released, the NABAS - The Balloon Association have produced a code of conduct which can be found on their website at www.nabas.co.uk

Safety and Environmental Concerns

Balloons are made of natural rubber latex (NRL) which is a natural product coming from rubber trees that are grown in certain areas of the tropics. These are not trees that are cut down to produce the NRL. The NRL is obtained by tapping from mature trees and is a sustainable crop providing employment for many agricultural workers in some of the poorest areas of the world.

As a consequence of NRL cultivation and the consumption of latex products, the planting and maintenance of rubber tree plantations helps towards the prevention of tropical rainforest deforestation. This contributes significantly to the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, produced by industrialised nations and a major source of global warming.

Research shows that latex balloons which are completely natural coming from the Hevea tree degrade faster than oak leaves. Oxidation occurs first in the breakdown of latex and it begins within 60 minutes of a balloon being inflated. As the decaying process is by natural exposure nutrients are released into the ground. Most balloons used in releases today are made of bio-degradable latex.

An estimated 90/95% of balloons released rise to an altitude of 5 miles, at which height the cold will cause the balloon to become brittle and shatter into miniscule pieces. The small fragments then floating back to earth to degrade in the ground. Balloon fragments are unlikely to cause harm if accidentally ingested. This is because latex and the dyes used in latex colouring are non-toxic.

Printed latex balloons are a fantastic, low-cost and environmentally friendly way of advertising at promotions and events. All latex balloons supplied by B-Loony, the UK’s largest printed balloon manufacturer, are completely biodegradable. The code of conduct produced by NABAS for balloon releases gives advice to ensure the protection of our environment.

Manufacture of Balloons

Balloons are manufactured by their millions every day in many countries. The rubber is collected as liquid from a rubber tree and then sent to the factories where the liquid goes through a series of treatment processes. These processes include shaping and colouring operations and testing for quality. The outcomes are thousands balloons which provide a splash of colour and party atmosphere at celebrations and conferences or any event where a large number of people gather.

Conclusion

Toy balloons have been a source of pleasure and excitement throughout the world for many years. They have provided hours of entertainment and interest for children as well as being an educational resource. Non toy Balloons are being used for science, medicine and travel and are invaluable in helping us to learn about our world. Balloons I am sure will remain very alive and active on the world’s scene for many years to come.

Who’s the coolest baby on the planet?

Now, before you start thinking that I’m full of myself, let me explain what this is really all about.

In a blog post I made, I talked about the need for your site to actually be related to the links that point to it. One example I gave was cutest baby in the world search phrase, versus the miserable failure search phrase.

In the past, searching for “miserable failure” brought up a completely unrelated web page. Due to Google’s new algorithm that does away with the “Google bomb” or “link bomb” effect, that is no longer the case.

My post discussed why this doesn’t work anymore.

In one of the comments on that post, Alex Newell suggested that I setup a site and try to get it to rank for the phrase “the coolest baby on the planet”, using the site to test various linking strategies and methods, etc.

Thus my the cutest baby in the world site was born.

What I am attempting to prove is that by following the directions Google gives in its Webmaster Guidelines, you can rank a site for a keyword phrase using 100% “white hat” methods.

In the pages of the site you will see outlined the methods I am using, and the progress I am making in implementing each of the steps from Google’s guidelines.

As of right now, the site is ranked #1 in Google for “the coolest baby on the planet”, but I also want to be ranked #1 for “the cutest baby in the world”, so I’m still working on it.
